Water Projects

 

This year,SIMOO will be drilling another well at Emamparisuai which is located South of Nairobi.The Maasai living here depend on rain water.currently the are depending on water that is sold to them by middle men after the rains failed here for three years.The average depth of a well is 200 meters.

 

Education

SIMOO continues to support education for primary, high school and college students. Girls are particularly vulnerable due to education considered to be a low priority for them by their families. The cost for education per year is:

 

·      Primary --- $ 150

·      High School --- $ 700

·      College/University --- $ 3,000

 

Food Security Program

SIMOO will continue food security projects, especially establishing crops that will thrive in dry land areas.The Drought has brought about many problems for livestock farmers.SIMOO will help to train Maasai through Maasai radio on food security issues.SIMOO will also develop drip irrigation projects in Maasai communities.

 

Advocacy

SIMOO will be conducting a women empowerment project from August 2009 to august 2010 meant to help educate women and help stop FGM among Maasai girls.volunteers and other experts are welcome to help on this issue.

 

Cultural Exchange Programs

During the months of September and october SIMOO Cultural Educators will Visit Boston, NY and Washington DC to give talks about Maasai culture.
